VS Note explains Korean listed companies in English.
More investors outside Korea now follow Korean companies: memory chipmakers and their equipment suppliers, battery makers, defense and power-equipment firms. Much of what explains those companies sits in Korean-language filings, such as the business overview in the annual report and the breakdown behind each quarter’s results. English coverage often stops at the headline number.
VS Note reads those filings and explains them in plain English.
What we cover
- What the company does — its products and where it sits in its industry’s supply chain
- How it makes money — revenue and profit as the company reports them
- How to read its recent results — including the Korea-specific conventions behind the numbers: consolidated versus separate statements, fiscal period numbering, KOSPI and KOSDAQ
Articles are grouped by sector: semiconductors, batteries, defense and aerospace, power and energy equipment, biotech, robotics and consumer companies. Guides explain Korean disclosure and market conventions on their own.
How we write
- Filings first. Company figures come from filings on DART, Korea’s electronic disclosure system run by the Financial Supervisory Service. When an article relies on news reports or other secondary sources, it says so
- Currency. Amounts are shown in Korean won with an approximate US dollar figure, converted at the Bank of Korea base rate on the date given in the article
- Sources. Each article lists the documents it used at the end
- Only what we could check. If something could not be confirmed, the article says so
What we don’t do
- We don’t recommend buying, selling or holding any security, and we don’t publish price targets
- We don’t accept payment or sponsorship for coverage
- We don’t present unconfirmed information as confirmed
In Korean
The same operator also runs Korean-language blogs. Articles there are written separately, in Korean, for Korean readers.
